HI GUYS I'M BACK AT COLLEGE and I feel like I've been neglecting everyone online oops (which really means that I'm no longer online constantly and am now going through withdrawal lol). I've been pretty busy, though, and I will probably remain so for a while, if not the whole quarter. I HAVE CLASS FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Cognition was basically what I expected and it should be fun and not too difficult. Our homework is almost always reading, though, but I will force myself to do it somehow!!

Basic Drawing is going to be intense, wow. It's the complete opposite of Intro to Visual Fundamentals; there is no deadline flexibility at all and we can't even listen to mp3 players in class. Which is probably a good thing, but it was just surprising. And our homework assignments are even more time-intensive and difficult. Rice is really awesome, though, I think I'll ask him to be my adviser since I'm going to double major in studio art anyway.

And Beyond Realism...um. I was really psyched for this class at first because the description pretty much said it was about analyzing fantasy and magic realism in a social/cultural context. Which is right up my alley! But then when I got there it turned out it was actually about...imperialist romanticism and critiques of it, specifically. Which also sounds pretty interesting, but not something I think I'd want to spend ten weeks studying, especially on something intended to be a filler class since nothing else supporting my major was open (except for Intro to Art History III which is at 8:30 MWF and uhhh I refuse to wake up at eight every day again if I don't have to). Also I was a bit miffed because I really thought it was going to be more of a general/introductory thing. I mean, if the course is really about imperialist romanticism, then shouldn't you be clearer about it? The phrase wasn't even mentioned in the description despite it being the entire focus of the class.

I get the feeling it's actually something of a course series with each one covering a different topic, but I still feel that the students should have been given more information :/

So I switched it out for Ethics, a beginning philosophy course. I feel a bit guilty about it since I seriously changed this last class like TWENTY BILLION TIMES (Chinese Calligraphy --> Intro to Art History I --> Intro to Art History III --> Reading the World: Beyond Realism --> Ethics) and most of them were in the past three days, and I made a big deal of it each time, but I also do feel a bit justified since I was contemplating taking a philosophy class before but all the ones I felt I could handle were closed, which is why I signed up for Art History I in the first place. AND I'M NOT CHANGING IT AGAIN, no matter what it ends up being. (yes [livejournal.com profile] regoddy you can make fun of me if you want)

So my final schedule is this:

MWF
Cognition: 1:15pm - 2:30pm
Ethics: 2:40pm - 3:55pm

TuTh
Basic Drawing: 8:30am - 12:30pm

I also intend to audition for the campus female a capella group, which I am nervous about because they happen THURSDAY AAAAAAAH. I don't even know what I'm going to sing ghksdlfj but I am leaning toward "I Won't Say I'm in Love" from Hercules. O-OTHER SUGGESTIONS??
